Stephen Gordon Godsey, Sr.
Stephen Gordon Godsey, Sr., born September 22, 1944, passed away on May 16, 2026, at Lynchburg General Hospital, surrounded by the love of family and the legacy of a life well lived.
Stephen was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, veteran, and friend whose steady presence and love for family touched many lives.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Devonne Garrett Godsey, affectionately known as Bonnie. He also leaves behind his children, Steve Godsey, Jr. and partner Crystal, and Aaron Godsey and wife April. He was a proud grandfather to Beth, Katie, Lily, and Jenna, and a cherished great-grandfather to Abby and Arwen. He is also survived by his brother, Lynn Godsey; sisters Nancy Crider, Betty Baldwin and husband Charles, and Anne Franklin; brother-in-law Berkley Garrett, Jr. and wife Barbara, along with numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him greatly.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn Childers Godsey and Ray Godsey.
Stephen proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his service, he worked for many years in numerous roles throughout his career before retiring from Framatome. He was a faithful member of Red Oak Baptist Church and found joy in the simple things that reflected his hardworking spirit and love of life.
Stephen loved farming and had a special fondness for his Kubota tractors. He enjoyed cars, racing, and spending time around the things he loved most. He could talk all afternoon about cars, tractors, or farming with anyone willing to pull up a chair and visit. Those conversations reflected the warmth, passion, and genuine nature that made him so memorable to those who knew him.
Above all else, Stephen loved his family and the time spent with those he cared about. His life was built on dedication, hard work, service, and the relationships he treasured most. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and memories that will continue through those who knew and loved him.
A graveside service will be held 11am, Friday, May 22, 2026, in Old Herman Cemetery with Rev. Corbin Crocker officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm, Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
