Carlos (Buddy) Edward Ferguson

No longer MIA, Carlos Edward Ferguson (Buddy) is finally coming home. He was born in Alderson, West Virginia on May 19, 1930, to Martha Mae Midkiff Ferguson and Harold Ferguson. Buddy grew up in West Virginia, and graduated from Smoot High School in Smoot, West Virginia in 1948. He enlisted in the Army August 30, 1948. He was stationed at Camp Stoneman, California; LaCarne, Ohio; Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky; Fort Lawton, Washington and then went to Korea in July of 1950. Buddy was a Private First Class (PFC) who served in Love (L) Company, 3rd Battalion (3/23 INF), 23 Infantry Regiment (23 INF), 2nd Infantry Division (2nd ID) during the Korean War. He was listed Missing In Action May 18, 1951, one day short of his 21st birthday. He served his country with pride and honor, making the ultimate sacrifice. He received the Purple Heart, United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal. Buddy is in heaven with his parents, Martha and Harold Ferguson; his brother, Bobby Ferguson, who is also MIA from the Korean War; his youngest brother Isaac Dale Ferguson; and his two sisters Mary Ferguson Cundiff and Glenna Ferguson Gillispie. He is survived by a sister, Joann Ferguson Hodges (Archie Sr.) of Rocky Mount, VA; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Service will be held at Living Waters Assembly of God Church, 34 Honeywood Road, Rocky Mount, VA 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019, with Pastor Roger Jones officiating. His family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will be 3 p.m. at McElhenney Church, 297 Snake Run Road, Alderson, West Virginia, led by Pastor Billy Ferguson.
