Henry Emmett Carter, Jr.

Henry Emmett Carter, Jr., 84, of Martinsville, the oldest son of Henry E. Carter, Sr. and Mary Hairston Carter was called from labor to reward to celebrate his 84th birthday with The Lord. Mr. Carter gained his wings Monday night on his 84th birthday with his wife and youngest son by his side at their home.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Penn; and brothers Marvin and Leroy Carter.

Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Catherine Pounds Carter; daughters, Teresa Harris (Donald), Charlene Carter Brown (Robert); step-daughters, Kimberly Childress (Carl), Shannon Green (Kareem); sons, Emmitt Jerome Carter, Ervin Carter (Angie), Charles Carter (Donna); step-sons, James Greene, and Terrance Greene; sisters, Shirley Adams, and Patricia Marsh (Victor); brothers, Rudolph Carter, Donald Ray Carter, and Herbert Carter; twenty eight grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral will be Friday, October 16, 2020, at 2:00 P. M. at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. A floating visitation will be Thursday, October 15, 2020, from 6:00 P. M. to 8:00 P. M. at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will be at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the home, 807 Carter Street, Martinsville, Virginia until 5:00 P. M. daily.
