Bobby "Bob" Pleasant Barker

Bobby “Bob” Pleasant Barker, 71, of Roanoke, VA went home to be with the Lord on Saturday evening May 25th, 2019. He was preceded by his parents; James Barker and Margaret Frye, wife; Patricia “Pat” Turner Barker, a sister: Ramona Adams.

Bob retired from the Veteran Affairs Hospital in Salem, VA in 2015 where he served for over 40 years. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years. Bob spent over half of his military service deployed to Vietnam, where he served 2 tours of duty and volunteering for the second tour. His time spent in Vietnam was 2 years and 2 months. He exemplified and was the true epitome of what Selfless Service is!

Some of Bob’s hobbies and favorite things were classic cars, C.B. radios, watching wrestling, eating a good meal, of course visiting and talking with family, and taking pictures while doing all the things he liked.

Surviving are his daughter; Jennifer Philpott Hall, son; James Philpott, grandchildren; Angel Jones and husband Ronald, Korie Flannagan and husband Brian, Troy Philpott and wife Helen, Maxx Philpott, great-grandchildren; Emmanuel, Elijah, and Isabelle Kenyi, Isaiah Vigil, Delaney and Hadley Flannagan, brothers Jimmy Barker and wife Frances, Danny Barker and wife Donna, sisters; Phyllis Frye, Judy Ruble, Nancy Zajkowski, Daisy McDow and husband Tim , Debbie Barker, and a number of nieces and nephews including; Jimmy Jr. and wife Chastity, Wendy and husband Andy, Susan Petry and Frank, Christina Swing.

Funeral services will be conducted 12 p.m. Saturday June 1st at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment with military honors will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, VA. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Simpson Funeral Home. 540-366-0707.
