The Life of Vashti Hortense Holsey

St. John 11:25-26

Jesus said unto her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live,

even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”

Vashti Hortense Holsey, age 100 of Detroit, Mi departed this life September 11, 2022 at home in

Westland, Mi. She was born June 1, 1922 to the late Carter Stevenson Waldron and Magdalene

(Molly Waldron). She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Holsey

Daughter, Brenda Holsey

6 sisters- Twin sister, Mrs. Verda Woods, Ceclia Waldron, Mrs.Buelah Ousley, Mrs. Daisy Girty,

Mrs. Evelyn Osborne, and Mrs. Elizabeth Nimmer

7 brothers- Nathan, Herbert, Orzie, Layman, Ellis, Lorenza, and Clarence Waldron

1 Step sister- Mrs. Florene Nicholas

And 1 Step Brother- Edward Waldron

She studied nursing in Salam-Winston, NC Where she was admitted as a Nurse Cadet at Kate

Bitting Reynolds memorial Hospital. She Retired from Sinai Hospital in 1983 as a Labor and

Delivery RN.She married Lester Holsey and had two Daughters Brenda Holsey, and Leslie

Holsey; one granddaughter Anita Vashti Holsey-Banks, two great- granddaughters Elena Vashti

Banks, and Elisa Evelyn Banks, and Nephew Maurice Mustafaa and a multitude of

Nieces and Nephews.

Vashti Loved playing church hymns on the Piano (How great thou art, When we all get to

heaven, Blessed assurance, and The National Anthem). She loved the Lord like no other and

always passed her Joy of the Lord to every soul she ran into. Vashti was a peaceful and gentle

woman with a fighting spirit. She Loved her family and Lord with all her heart.

Visitation will be held from 10-11am with Memorial Services at 11 am on Saturday, September 24, 2022 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Waldren officiating. Inurnment will follow in Jackson Baptist Church, 7 Trebark Rd, Buchanan.
