Royce Hylton, Sr.

Royce Benford Hylton Sr., 91, of Spencer, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 at home. He was born November 22, 1929 in Patrick County, Virginia, to the late V.S. “Buddy” Hylton and Helen Moore Hylton. Mr. Hylton was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Griffin Hylton; daughter-in-law Peggy Hylton; sisters, Margaret Clark, and Doris Fowlkes; and brothers, Staples Hylton and Dallas Hylton.

Mr. Hylton was a member of Horsepasture Christian Church where he served as a deacon. He was a founding member of Hillcrest Baptist Church as well as a founding member of the Horsepasture Fire Department. Mr. Hylton was a member of the Spencer Ruritan Club and was a faithful Thursday morning Bible Study attendee. He retired with 38 years of service with Dupont.

Mr. Hylton is survived by his daughter, Patricia Hylton; sons Royce Hylton, Jr. (Mary), Barry Hylton and David Hylton (Amy); two sisters, Kathleen Pigg (J.E.), and Joye Nelson, sister-in-law, Brenda Hylton; eleven grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren.

There will be a floating visitation at Wright Funeral Home on Thursday, February 4 from 12 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. The funeral will be held Friday, February 5 at 1:00 P.M. and will be private for family but will be broadcast locally at Horsepasture Christian Church FM 100.5 with Pastor Dave Cuthbertson officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.

Due to Covid-19 circumstances, the family requests no visitors at their home and a face covering is required as well as social distancing to be observed. Thank you for honoring the family’s request.
