Frank Morris Johnson, Sr.

Frank Morris Johnson transitioned from his Earthly home to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 9, 1928 to the late Elder Mack Wright Johnson and Ida Lou Scales Johnson, making his stay on Earth 92 years.

He attended Zigler School in the Spencer Community. He also worked at E. I. DuPont in Martinsville, Virginia, retiring in 1985 with 38 years of service. He was owner/operator of Frank M. Johnson Trucking Company, and was a farmer.

He was joined in matrimony to Dovie Matilda Via on June 19, 1948. This union was blessed with six children.

He joined Red Hollow Primitive Baptist Church on April 7, 2002, and was baptized on May 5, 2002. He was ordained as a deacon on November 6, 2004. He was a faithful servant to his church and his Association.

In addition to his parents, Deacon Johnson was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Dovie Via Johnson; brothers: Elder Willie Mack Johnson, Elder James Johnson, Joseph Johnson, and Deacon Jack Johnson; and sisters: Idella Smith, Ruth Stockton, and Naomi “Hiawatha” Roy.

Those left to mourn and cherish his memory are his children: Doris (John) Redd of Spencer, Virginia; Frank Johnson Jr. of Spencer Virginia; Gloria Johnson of Martinsville, Virginia; Michael (Cynthia) Johnson of Cary, North Carolina; Debbie (Clarence) Strickland of Ridgeway, Virginia; and Kevin Johnson of Martinsville Virginia. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Friday, April 30, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Mack W. Johnson Cemetery in Spencer, Virginia. A floating visitation will be held Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Wright Funeral Service chapel from 4-7 PM.
