Michael Wayne Rupe, Sr.
Michael Wayne Rupe Sr., 65, of Pulaski, passed away on February 22, 2019 in his home surrounded by his family. Mike was born in Pulaski, to Ralph E. Rupe Sr. and Mildred Craig Rupe on October 1, 1953. He married Patricia Ratcliffe on June 30, 1974 in Pulaski, VA. Mike worked for Volvo for 39 years before retiring in 2016. Mike was a devoted husband and a proud father, who spent endless hours at the ball fields with his two sons, Michael Jr. and Jamie. It would only take a few minutes of conversation with him to know the pride and love he felt for his boys, but the love and pride he had for his two precious grandchildren, Corey and Lily, was immeasurable. There wasn’t a day that went by that he did not talk to or see them; and share their accomplishments and endearing stories with friends and family. Mike Rupe had a servant’s heart and touched many lives with his kindness and generosity. Those who knew him best will forever remember his laughter and jokes. He was a father figure to many and will be greatly missed. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mildred Rupe and brother in law Jimmy Ratcliffe. Mike is survived by his wife, Patricia: his children Michael Rupe Jr (Laura) and Jamie Rupe (Heather); brothers Ralph Rupe and Jay Rupe (Debbie); sisters Sharon and Karen; grandchildren Corey and Lily Rupe; mother in law Paddy Ratcliffe and sisters’ in law, Ansie, Sharon, and Kathy; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and extended family. The family would like to give a special thanks to Chas Lawson for being by Patricia’s side to help navigate this difficult time and unselfishly giving her time to care for Mike in his final hours; as well as Jim and Ann Padgett for their friendship, love and support in those final hours. The family will be receiving friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Monday, February 25th at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Pulaski, A memorial service will immediately follow, officiated by Pastor Judy Yonce, at the church at 7 pm.
