Helen Marie Whitlock Meredith

Helen Marie Whitlock Meredith, 83, of Salem, Virginia, departed this life to her heavenly home June 23, 2019.
 
Helen resided at the Salem Terrace Dogwood Memory Care Center. She was born in 1935 in Rogers, VA., to Bernard and Kate Whitlock.
 
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas M. Meredith; brothers, Harry, Charles, Walter Jr. "B" and Max; and sisters, Arlene, Louise, Gene, and Doris. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Jena Meredith; and her beloved granddaughters, Tara Jo Meredith and Ashley Marie Meredith; and her sister Nancy Lindquist (David) and many nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friends.
 
After high school, Helen attend college at the woman’s campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Technology (now known as Radford University). Helen went on to obtain her Master’s Degree from Bowie State College (now known as Bowie State University) in Bowie, Maryland and was a teacher/guidance counselor for over thirty years in the Maryland public school system. After her retirement from the Maryland school system, and the family’s move back to Southwest, Virginia, she joined the Roanoke County public school system as a guidance counselor for another ten years.
 
The family extends special thanks to the staff at Hermitage House in Roanoke, Virginia; Salem Terrace in Salem, Virginia; and Heartland Hospice Care – all of them true Angels!! - for the outstanding care Helen received the last years of her life.
 
A memorial service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Southview United Methodist Church, 3539 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019. Following the service there will be a luncheon in the fellowship hall at the Church. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to any cancer or dementia organization.
