Betty Lay Mooney

Betty Lay Mooney, 78, of Martinsville, Virginia passed away Friday, August 20, 2021, at her home. She was born November 29, 1942, in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Sally K. Wright Lay. She was a retired Communications Operator. Ms. Mooney was a member of the Band Booster Club, enjoyed watching her children participate in school sports and loved Disney World.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband John H. Mooney, Sr.

She is survived by daughters, Janet Walton, Rachel Mooney and Katherine Gravely; sons, John H. Mooney, Jr., Frank H. Mooney, Joseph Mooney and Samuel K. Mooney; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday, September 3, 2021, at 3:00 at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
