Joan Kearns

Joan Kearns, age 83 of Roanoke, passed away Sunday September 12, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness.

Joan was born in Buchanan and was the daughter of the late Willis and Eleanor Garland Camper. She lived in Italy and Germany for about 10 years on an Air force base and worked as a Secretary for the military base for 30 years. Joan moved back to the states after 10 years and she finally met her soul mate of 34 years Carl Sweet.

Joan enjoyed flower gardening and yard work, she had a passion for the outdoors and most importantly for her pets.

Joan is survived by her loving partner Carl Sweet, sisters and brothers-in-law: Roseann (Ken) Saunders of Phoenix, Arizona; Joyce (Ronnie) Lester of Salem, Virginia; and Judy Brown of Iowa, and her sweet kitty cat’s: Grandma and Mittens.

A graveside service honoring Joan’s life will be 3:00 PM Wednesday September 15, 2021 at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens, 7271 Cloverdale Road, Roanoke, VA 24019 in the Mausoleum with Evangelist Dr. Joann Menefee officiating.
