Wanda Kirby Walrond

Wanda Kirby Walrond, 90, of Salem, Virginia, died on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. She was born on Wednesday, July 29, 1931, to the late William Dewey Kirby and Lillian Fay McCaleb Kirby in Paint Bank, Virginia (Craig County). Her fathers job with the Norfolk and Western Railway brought the family to Salem. Wanda attended South Salem Elementary School. She graduated from Andrew Lewis High School and maintained a close bond with a circle of friends from South Salem and Andrew Lewis throughout her life. She had a long career in personnel administration at Yale & Towne Manufacturing Co. and later with Eaton Corporation. In her "retirement" she enjoyed helping customers at Jobe's Florist. While working for Yale & Towne she met her future husband, Willis Hubbard Walrond.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Colleen Waldron; sister, Lillian Kirby Bradley; and a brother, Roscoe Dewey Kirby.

She is survived by her brother, William Kenneth Kirby and his wife, Judith; niece, Deborah L. Kirby (John Dudding); nephews, Craig J. Bradley (Deborah), David B. Bradley (Kirsten), Steven K, Bradley (Casey Morehouse), and William Douglas Kirby (Carolyn); and Lynn Murdock whom to Wanda was like her own daughter.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, with Pastor Dan Netting officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. Friends may visit with the family from 5 until7 p.m. on Monday, November 8, 2021, at the funeral home.
