Linda Mae Burris Harmon
Linda B. Harmon, 73 of Salem, entered eternity on Saturday, November 6, 2021, from her home surrounded by family.
She was born on September 7, 1948, in Elliston, Va., daughter of the late Charles Rutherford and Nettie Evelyn Yopp Burris. She earned her living as a seamstress and cleaning homes for others, and thoroughly enjoyed it as it was evident in her attention to detail. When not cleaning you may have found Linda in the garden or in the flower bed, as she loved being outside, or possibly playing with her cat, “Nibbles,” whom she loved. She was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church, but she will be most remembered for the love she had for her grandkids. She certainly loved her family, but her grandkids were the apple of her eye, and she enjoyed every moment spent with them.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, William Holmes Harmon; a brother, Charles Burris; and her son-in-law, Kenny Turner.
Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her children, Denyse Turner and Tracy Mills (Eugene); brother, Don Burris; sister, June Burris Sowder (Danny); grandchildren, Stephenie Wyatt, Joey Leech (Hillary), Josh Leech, Kasie Cooper (Thomas), and Ethan Mills (Haley); great-grandchildren, Leah Wyatt, Taelen Mills, Coltin Hypes, Brixton, Sadie, Thor Michael, Virginia Grace, and Hudson Leech, and one due in 2022; and special friend, Helen “Annie” Mills.
Funeral services honoring Linda’s life will be conducted on Friday, November 12, 2021, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem. Eugene Mills will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Heartland Hospice, especially Karen Willenbring, as well as the staff of At Home Caregivers, with special thanks to Pilar Sirrine-Romero, for the love and care given during the times it was most needed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Linda’s memory to either the Alzheimer’s Association of Roanoke, 3959 Electric Rd #357, Roanoke, VA 24018; or to Heartland Hospice, 2800 Electric Rd SW #105c, Roanoke, VA 24018.
