Calvin Louis Harper

Minister Calvin Louis Harper was born on May 27, 1955 in Bedford, Virginia to the late Rebecca Harper. He departed this life on November 13, 2021 at his home. He was a graduate of Fieldale Collinsville High School. Calvin worked at Bassett Walker for over 30 years, The Dutch Inn as a chef for over 20 years and Ply Gem Windows for over 15 years before he retired.
Calvin was a dedicated member, ordained Deacon and later Minister at the Church of God In Christ Jesus. He loved to testify, sing and preach the Word of God. His faith in God was the cornerstone in his life.
Cooking and preparing food were some of his true joys and hobbies. He was a faithful member of the church kitchen staff. Calvin loved to cook for his children and grandchildren. The kitchen was his second home. He helped prepare many holiday meals for work functions and caterings. You would always know when he thought he had outdone himself when he would close his eyes and shake his head after tasting his food.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca Harper, two sisters, Gloria “Faye” Rumley and Ruby Calloway, one brother, Billy Harper and his maternal grandparents, Emmett and Rosa Harper. Calvin leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 40 years, Brenda Harper of the home, two children, Louis Harper (Melissa), Brittney Hunt (Brian), two sisters, Dorothy Wray, Mary Harper and one brother, Kermit Harper (Bonita), nine grandchildren, Noah Harper, Sean Harper, Lorna Harper, Tyrell Hairston, Devin Hairston, Makaylah Hairston, Nicholas Hairston, Brain Hunt, Jr., Breon Hunt, one god- son, Dorian Harper, caregiver, Jaylen Martin and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Refuge Temple Holiness Church, 205 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, Virginia 24112. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Harper Family Cemetery, John Baker Road, Fieldale, Virginia
