Dewey Pleasant Newman

Dewey Pleasant Newman, 93, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021. He was born April 13, 1928, in Patrick County, Virginia, to the late Eddie Pleasant Newman and Nannie Lou Mabe Newman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel L. Keffer Newman; sisters, Thelma Crews, Mary Maxey, Margaret Spraker, and Alley Swain; and brothers, Otis, Joe, Coy, Woodrow, Russell, and Albert Newman, and Richard Lee Boyce Jr.

Dewey was a member of Open Door Baptist Church, where he held the positions of Deacon and Chairman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his blueberry farm.

He is survived by his daughter, Andra Mae Donley; sons, Dewey Paul Newman Sr., and Kelly Newman; sister, Minnie Bowling (Buck); grandchildren, Dewey Newman Jr., Amy Nunley, John Newman, Jason Sigman, and Brieanna Newman; great-grandchildren, Mary Katherine Ann Boyce, Brently Gage Newman, and Savannah Paige Newman; and great-great-grandchildren, Ava, Amy Jo, Shyann, Trey, Elizabeth, Benelli, Tatum, Lillian, Aydan, Bradly, and Kayleigh.

The funeral will be Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Pastors James Thomas, and Bob Sowers officiating. Burial will follow at Henry Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
