Kimberly Washington Richardson
Kimberly Washington Richardson, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on November 9, 2021 at Mayo Hospital. She was 61.
Kim was born on October 5th, 1960, to Larry and Betty Washington (Teague) in Martinsville, VA. A 1980 graduate of Martinsville High School, she pursued her dream of a television/film career, first at Elon University and then at the University of Maryland, where she graduated in 1986. She then went on to spend 25+ years in television production, including nearly 15 years at the U.S. Senate Recording Studio, where she worked as a director and editor.
Kim’s husband met the love of his life in April of 1992. She and Pat were married on June 24th, 1995, following Kim’s 14-month battle with bone cancer, and they moved to Jacksonville in 1998. That cancer was the opening salvo in her 27-year war with a variety of health issues, including a bone marrow transplant (via stem cells), kidney disease, and cancer again, to name a few.
Throughout it all, Kim was an inspiration to everyone around her. She loved her family, her work, the beach, her dogs, from Nero to Abby, manatees, tulips and life itself. Kim’s positivity, strength and fighting spirit helped her overcome many of her physical challenges. Kim gained the admiration of everyone whose life she touched, and her radiance created a spark that pierced any darkness. She was truly a force to be reckoned with. May the angels lead her to Paradise….
Kim was preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Betty Washington of Martinsville, VA.
Kim is survived by her adoring husband, Patrick Richardson, of Jacksonville, FL and two sisters, Dorothy Washington of Collinsville, VA and Cathy Hughes of Cape St. Claire, MD, 21 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A Visitation/Service will be held at 1:00 on Saturday, December 4th at Wright Funeral Service of Martinsville, VA, followed by interment [next to her parents] at Roselawn Burial Park.
