Lois Maxine Swanson Hairston

February 24, 1947 - November 30, 2021

Lois Maxine Swanson Hairston, was born February 24, 1947 in Henry County, Va. She departed this life on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. Maxines was the first child born to the late Landon Haywood Swanson Sr., and Viola Hodge Swanson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death By her brothers, Edward L. and Landon H. Swanson Jr., and her sister, Linda S. Hairston.

Maxine attended Henry County Public Schools-Irisburg, Leatherwood, and was a 1965 honor graduate of George Washington Carver High School. She received her Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice from Patrick Henry Community College.

Maxine worked at Sale Knitting, and for over 30 years, she was employed with Fieldcrest-Canon (later Pillowtex) and remained there until their closing. Later, she was employed by Monogram. Maxine also drove bus for Henry County Public Schools for five years. She was an active member of Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years.

She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Dr. Eric F. (Amy) Hairston Sr., of Axton, Va. and Kerwin D. (Heather) Hairston, of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Carolyn (Mervin) Brown, of Martinsville, Va.; a grandson, Eric F. (Diana) Hairston Jr., of Jacksonville, N.C.; two granddaughters, Moriah L. Hairston, of Axton, Va.; and Naomi I-M Hairston, of Baltimore, Md.; two nieces, three nephews, two great-nephews and one great-niece; one uncle, one aunt, and a host of cousins, other relatives, church family and friends.

Home going services will be held on Monday, December 6, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Greater International Pentecostal Church (Assembly Building), 980 Carver Road, Martinsville, Va. Dr. Eric F. Hairston will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 5th, 2021 at Hines Funeral Services from 3 until 5 p.m. and one half hour prior to the funeral and will be at the home of her son (Eric) 168 County Place Road, Axton, Va. at other times. Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens. The All visitors are ask to wear a mask and social distancing will be observed.
