Roger Dale "R.D." Foutz

February 5, 1948 - December 4, 2021

Roger Dale “R.D” Foutz,73 of Salem, made his way to the heavenly hunting grounds on Saturday, December 4, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

Roger is remembered for being a simple type of man with many talents. He completed two tours in Vietnam with the Marine Corp from which he went on to transition into the Army National Guard to be closer to home with his family. He then went on to become a dedicated employee of Norfolk Southern Railroad as a welder from which he retired after twenty-eight plus years. No doubt an avid outdoorsman, you would often find him heading out to his favorite fishing hole, hunting, smoking meats, or woodworking. However, his greatest thrill was traveling and camping, which he and his family spent almost forty-eight years traveling around the country in their RV. Roger was also a devoted member of the Wood Turner’s Association. A loving son, husband, father, and friend, it is no secret that Roger has left an impression on the lives of so many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Russell and Edith Foutz; as well as his daughter Jenifer Foutz.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of fifty years, Helen Foutz; son, Chris Foutz (Elizabeth Cheatham); a very special cousin, Norma Jean Aplet; his beloved “Circle Gang”; as well as his furry companions, Dakota, Boo-Boo, Maggie Mae, Angel, Bandit, and Daisy.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the upper parlor of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem.

In lieu of flowers please make charitable contributions to Woodrow Wilson Middle School, of Roanoke, VA in his memory.
