Edward Eugene "EJ" Gillispie

Edward Eugene Gillispie “EJ”, 79 of Pembroke, VA departed this life December 9, 2021 surrounded by his loving family and in the care of Lewis Gale Hospital-Montgomery. Born March 2, 1942, in Pembroke, VA he is a son of the late Frank and Rita Young Gillispie.

EJ was proud to be a Corncutter, a member of the Pembroke High School Class of 1960. He served his country proudly protecting the citizens and his friends in the US Army. He would later continue to serve community as a mail carrier for the USPS. One of his proudest accomplishments though, was that of his family, where he would be married to his wife, Joyce Ann Janney Gillispie for greater than 50 years.

EJ is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce; a sister, Phyllis Cumbee; and his brother, Curtis Gillispie.

Left to cherish his memory to their hearts are his sons, Tim Gillispie (Dayla) of New Jersey, and Steve Gillipsie (Rhonda) of Pembroke,VA; grandchildren, Christopher Gillispie, Abigale Pepper, and Zane Huskey; and a host of friends and family.

There will be a funeral service conducted Friday, December 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Gary Poff officiating in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel. A Veterans Honor Service will follow at Birchlawn Burial Park. Family will receive friends in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
