Thomas Robert "George" Sparks, Sr.

Thomas Robert Sparks, Sr., “George”, 79, husband of Linda Sparks, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 with his beloved family by his side. He was born in Welch, WV on August 6, 1942 to the late Willie and Homer Sparks. He was also preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Kathleen and Nelson Bowman; brothers-in-law, Chuck Bowman and Eldridge Crawford.

In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, Linda Bowman Sparks, he will be missed and remembered by his son, Thomas Sparks, Jr.; daughter, Tammy Spangler (John); grandchildren, Allie Harrison (Allen), Kaitlyn Spangler, Kameron Sparks, Bryson Spangler and Emma Spangler; great-grandsons, Colton Thomas Harrison and Cash Spencer; sister, Laura Crawford; sister-in-law, Bonnie Bowman; several nieces and nephews; as well as his special fur baby, Gracie Mae.

He was a member of Grace and Truth Baptist Church. He worked as a master plumber at Advanced Plumbing until his retirement in 2004. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time in his shed doing woodworking. He went back to work at Abbott Bus Line for the last nine years.

If you knew Thomas, you know that he loved God, his family and spending time with his grandkids. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lewis Gale Medical Center 5 West and the Surgical ICU department for the loving care they provided to him.

A service to celebrate Thomas’ life will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, January 23, 2022 in the Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Rd., with Brother Paul Morrow and Brother Rodney Spears officiating, a special prayer by Pastor Joel Wegner and music by Rebekah Spears. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2 pm to 3 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Grace and Truth Baptist Church Mission Fund.
