Ruth Guthrie Blevins

November 17, 1930 - January 21, 2022

Ruth Guthrie Blevins (17 Nov, 1930 – 21 Jan, 2022). After 91 years in her beloved Giles Co, she passed away peacefully, of natural causes. She accomplished a lot during her lifetime. She loved to travel and visited a dozen different foreign countries; making friends all along the way. She was always active in her church and even at age 90 still played the piano for Ripplemead’s Edgewood Methodist Church. She was a member of the Giles County Historical Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Pearisburg Woman's Club, and the Rippemead Friendship Club. and routinely did ancestral/historical research for individuals all around the country. She always looked forward to planning annual High School and family reunions.

The daughter of William A. and Mary H. Guthrie, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of over 60 years, Carlton A. (Bill) Blevins; and a brother, Dr. Don Guthrie. She is survived by children Barbara (Don) Clark of Ripplemead, VA, Gary (Susan) Blevins of Flatrock, NC, and Greg Blevins of Ripplemead, VA; a granddaughter Sarah Aardema of Ripplemead, VA; and great grandson Tripp Aardema. Ruth is also survived by her siblings Alan (Thez) Guthrie of Ripplemead, VA, Betsy Newberry of Bland, Norma (Allen) Newberry of Bland, and Barry Guthrie of Ripplemead, VA; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Mackenzie Guthrie of Vancouver, Canada. She will be greatly missed by all, to include a friendly little backyard squirrel whom she fondly named Fannie Mae.

There will be a funeral service conducted Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, VA. A committal service will follow at Birchlawn Burial Park-Pearisburg, VA. Family will receive friends on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 1:00 PM. until 2:00 PM.
