Howard Dewayne Wood

June 27, 1950 - February 8, 2022

Howard Dewayne Wood born on June 27, 1950 passed peacefully with his family by his side on February 8,2022, he was 71 years old. He was born to the late Robert Lee Wood & Elnora “Madeline” Wood. He is preceded by his sister Dorothy L. Massie.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 51 years G. Darlene Wood; his children Robert Lee Wood, Anthony Dewayne (Karen-His favorite DIL aka Speedy) Wood, Timothy Howard Wood, Daniel Wichael and Michelle Wichael; grandchildren Halie (Nick) Johnson, Jordan Wood, Ethan Wood, Cody Liptrap and Caleb (Ari) Landsdown, Christina Wichael and Miriam; great-grandchildren Gracie Johnson, Elenora Landsdown, Janoah Wichael; special sister in law Linda (Arthur) Wells; nephew Michael (Jeanie) Massie, nieces Suzanne (Lester) Alkire and Melissa (Carlton) Williams as well as other family members and many special friends. 
Howard graduated in 1968 from Waynesboro High School and later on in life he received his Associates Degree in Science from VWCC. Howard was Head Deacon at New Grace Baptist Church. Howard worked many years at DuPont in Waynesboro, Va and retired from there in 1989. Howard retired from Novozymes Biological after 28+ years as a Research Associate in 2019. 
Howard will be remembered for his Love of God, the Love for his Church, the Love he had for his family, his stories, his distinct laugh and much more. Howard loved his Pastor Shaun Minnix. He enjoyed fellowship with his brothers and sisters in Christ, he enjoyed reading, putting puzzles together, doing word search books and especially his vacations with his wife. Howard really enjoyed hosting Father’s Day Cookouts for his sons and grandsons, He enjoyed Thanksgiving & Christmas Holidays because it meant time with family. Howard loved his birthday, he always said that was another Holiday to celebrate and we did. He loved the Orioles baseball team and the Baltimore Ravens Football team, he loved collecting sports cards. He loved his fur babies Lady, Dutchess, Duke and Mikki. Howard had many many friends from Novozymes that he loved, appreciated and respected. He always told those he worked with “Always be good to the old guy especially the guys.” Howard never complained, he took everything with a grain of salt and never questioned God. One of Howard’s favorite Bible verses was Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith. 
The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Friday, February 11, 2022 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.
A funeral service will be held at New Grace Baptist Church on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park.
