Mildred Ferguson Candler

Mildred Ferguson Candler, 87, formerly of Gladys, died on March 10, 2022, at Liberty Ridge in Lynchburg. She was married on December 18, 1953, to the late Otis Terrell Candler. Mildred was a devoted wife to Otis for over 40 years and a loving mother to her late son Terrell Wayne Candler.
Born on May 14, 1934, in Appomattox County, she was the daughter of the late John Robert Ferguson and Minnie Gilbert Ferguson. Mildred worked as an administrative assistant for Craddock-Terry Shoe Company until her retirement. She was a member of New Chapel Baptist Church and a former Sunday School teacher.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Ava N. Ferguson and Elizabeth C. Rowland and husband, Paul and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and son, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel Ferguson and John Thomas Ferguson; and a sister, Ruby F. Williams.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at New Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Dooley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
