Margaret Wright Myers
Margaret Ann Wright Myers, 84, of Collinsville, Virginia, died on Wednesday, March 15, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas. She was born in Henry County, Virginia, October 30, 1937, to the late Jasper Robert Wright and Eliza Mae Whittaker Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Douglas Elwood Myers; and five brothers, Alfred, Walter, Wesley, Grover and Elmer.
Margaret is survived by three children, Elizabeth Myers Crider (Bill Perkins), of Houston, Texas, Donald Myers of Houston, Texas, and Timothy Myers (Beth) of Martinsville; six grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth Crider, Zachary Alexander Crider, Christopher Lee Myers, Jason Lee Myers, Jordan Allan Myers and Emily Kate Myers; five great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Sakiko Wright, Betty Wright, Betty Edwards Brazzell, and Jean Haynes Moore.
Margaret had a servant’s heart. In her earlier years, she enjoyed working in the toddler nursery at Fort Trial Baptist Church, substitute teaching at Collinsville Primary School, volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, and even giving heartfelt advice to the young inmates at the Henry County Jail where she was employed in food services for several years.
Her greatest devotion, however, was reserved for her family of whom she was fiercely protective. Her mischievous playfulness and love of nature and adventure left many fun memories for her sons, her daughter, and their childhood friends.
She was a graduate of Martinsville High School and attended Patrick Henry Community College. A book entitled “Roselawn” Burials was compiled by Margaret and Patricia Johnson, which contains the history of Roselawn Burial Park and an alphabetical list of more than 10,000 people buried in Roselawn at the time of the first printing. More than 17 months went into the research and publication of the book.
Margaret’s passion for genealogy and family research gave her a stronger sense of connection with family near and far. She worked on the family history constantly in her final months and found great joy in locating new distant family members with whom she could communicate.
A public graveside service will be held at Roselawn Burial Park on Thursday, March 24, at 2:00 pm.
Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at www.wrightfuneralservices.net
