Charles Earl "Charlie" Hall
Charles Earl Hall, “Charlie”, dad, brother, and friend died on March 16th at Richfield Living in Salem, VA. He lived a life gifted with so many loved ones, both family and friends alike. He never met a stranger and people loved tapping his wisdom.
Charles was born in 1938, in Jacksonville, FL to Earl and Ruby Hall (nee Harmon). The family later lived in Tennessee, the home of his mother’s family and where his sister, Diana, was born. During his high school years, the family lived in Peterburg, VA. After graduating from Petersburgh High School in 1955, Charles attended and graduated from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1962 with a degree in Industrial Arts Education.
Over the course of his career, Charles worked in many design, engineering and manufacturing fields, including aeronautics, the automotive industry, plastics, and high security locks. While working in these areas, he obtained patents for his designs in locks and valve systems. Outside of work, he pursued many interests alone, with family and with his many friends, including farming, viticulture and winemaking, and designing and crafting custom furniture.
Charles was predeceased by his parents, his sister, and his grandson Jay Hall. He is survived by his children, Jim Hall (wife Kay Griffith), Will Hall, Grant Hall (wife Samantha (nee Milton) and their daughter Evie), and Harmon Hall.
Special thanks from his family to the wonderful staff at Richfield Living for their ongoing support, care, and the love they had for Charlie and to the kind and caring staff at Good Samaritan Hospice.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem.
