Darryl J. Dorathy

Darryl J. Dorathy, 84, of Salem, Va., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, after being diagnosed with leukemia.

Darryl was born on February 20, 1938, in Payette, Idaho. He graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in engineering. After completion of ROTC in college, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant into the U.S. Air Force. He served four years of active duty during the Vietnam War. He also served many years in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Darryl began his career as an engineer for General Electric in Salem, Va., in 1964. He later was a successful sales engineer for Carlen Controls in Roanoke, Va.

Darryl is survived by his wife, Dean Dorathy of Salem, Va.; sons, Darryn Dorathy of Roanoke, Va. and Tom David Dorathy (Aimee) of Roanoke, Va.; daughter, DeDe Lyle (Bob) of Richmond, Va.; two beautiful granddaughters, Emily and Lillian Dorathy; and a sister, Donna Smith of Portland, Ore.

Darryl was a member of CommUNITY Church in Salem, Va., where a memorial service will be held in his honor on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Pastor Tom McCracken will officiate.
