Avie Craig Peak

Avie Craig Peak, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on August 10, 2025, on her 97th birthday. She was born in Patrick Springs, Virginia on August 10, 1928, to Jasper Woodson Craig and Dollie Washburn Craig.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Neal Peak (Debra) of Rocky Mount, VA and William Keith Peak, of High Point, NC; 6 Grandchildren; 5 Great-Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren; Edreen Peak (widow of Tony); Mary Ann Peak and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Tony Thacker Peak; parents, Jasper and Dollie Craig; and brothers, Clinton Jefferson, Carnell Craig and Randolph Craig.

Possessing a strong work ethic and a spirited entrepreneurship, Avie’s careers were quite varied. Avie ran a community grocery store, she taught ceramics to many people and finally was an owner-operator of two KFC restaurants. In her later years, she made crocheted kitchen towels Most of these towels were given to organizations to be used for fund raising projects. For several years, she produced more than 500 towels each year.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Tanya Peters, many nurses, medical professionals and Mountain Valley Hospice Care.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 11:00 am, with a Celebration of Life at 12:00 noon.
