Baby Kanaya Barbara Broggin

September 11, 1938 - May 23, 2025

On September 11, 1938, the book of life opened for Laura at the Lynchburg General Hospital located in Lynchburg, Virginia. This precious baby girl was born to the late Louis Leon and Kaula Virginia Brown Cardwell. She was the fifth of nine children.

Laura attended Circleville High in Ohio and would later complete her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was reared in a Christian home, accepted Christ at a young age, and was baptized at the Pilot Mountain Baptist Church.

Laura blessed numerous individuals, churches, and communities with her God given musical talent as she praised God and spread the good news through song. She served as a musician for the following churches: New Free Spring Baptist Church, Mt. Obed Baptist Church, Peaceful Grove Baptist Church, and Pilot Mountain Baptist Church.

She was predeceased by two sisters: Vivian Cardwell and Ada Dixon; two brothers: Wilbert and Thomas Cardwell. Laura leaves to cherish her life of celebration: her husband of 64 years, Richard Harvey, her siblings Josephine German, Etta Battle, Robert Cardwell (Phyllis), and Margaret Harvey. Also, her devoted and dedicated family and friends: Viola Morris, Dorothy Paige, Clyde Dixon, Eddis Payne, Trina Potter, Cynthia Booker, Terri Ferguson, Cliff Martin, Dr. Richard and Susan Morris, Nancy Mann, Victor Cardwell, Emma Jackson, and Vera Sparrow. Left to mourn her loss is a host of relatives and friends.

Her funeral will be Friday, May 30, 2025 at the Pilot Mountain Baptist Church at 1:00 PM. She will lie in state one our before the service. A public viewing will be held at the Bruce and Stiff Funeral Home on Thursday, May 29, 2025, 12 noon until 6 p.m.
