Barbara Ann Carter
Barbara Ann Carter, 74, of Virginia passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024.Barbara graduated Jefferson High School in 1969. Upon graduation she immediately started working at CNP Telephone (which eventually became Verizon) as a long-distance operator. As years went by, she was promoted to an Engineering Drawing Clerk and finished up her 54-and-a-half-year career on 12/2/2023 as an engineering assistant. She was proud of her years working at Verizon. She never missed a day.She was an active person and served on the board of supervisors at the Blue Eagle Credit Union. She was a Telcom Pioneer President for many years and was also responsible for decorating the Christmas tree in the annual festival of trees, winning the peoples choice award numerous times.Barbara was very passionate about life and there were many things she loved doing. For example, she was an avid bowler and served as the Pioneer Bowling league secretary/treasurer multiple times. She loved Bubbaloo (the cat), and she liked to watch gameshows to match wits with the contestants on TV. Barbara loved eating out, and the Hallmark channel and would sometimes quote the lines on the programs she was watching. She never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand if need be. The family would like to thank the caring team in the Carillion ICU, her many special friends, Willard Tina Dietz, Hazel Goad, Mike Baker, Jill Helm, Jeff Draper and many others.Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Arch Myers and Beulah Gibson; beloved stepfather, Roy Gibson; husband, Russel Carter; sister, Judy Sink; brothers, Clinton Myers, Homer Myers, Harold Waldren.Barbara is survived by her brothers, Rocky Gibson, Ralph Myers (Linda); sisters, Loretta Flowers (Donnie), Linda Griffith (Mark), Charlotte Vandergrift; special fur baby, Bubbaloo. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM, Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Lotz Funeral Home, 1001 Franklin Road, Roanoke.A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Lotz Funeral Home, 1001 Franklin Road, Roanoke with Reverand T.
