Barbara Jeanette Henderson

Barbara Jeanette Henderson died on Monday, January 2, 2023. She was born on March 17, 1936, to Paul Eugene Henderson Sr. and Cora Lee Gregory at Back Creek, Roanoke, Virginia. She was preceded in death by husband, Marvin Tate; sister, Lois Annette Olsen Ojalla Dehner; brothers, Paul Eugene Henderson Jr., and Joseph Marina Henderson; parents, and stepparents, Alfred Clay Pearce and Annie Myrtle Coates.

Surviving is her first husband, George Ronal Horne; their three children, Mark Randal Horne, Rhonda Jean Horne Booth (Danny), and Brian Timothy Horne; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Barbara had seven living siblings, Kay Henderson Partridge Coidesina, Jerry Lee Pearce, Gray Coates Henderson, Jeffrey Cashell Henderson (Cindy), Kim Elaine Henderson Green (Keith), Barney Lee Henderson (Kim) and Barry Lyn Henderson (Tina)

Barbara attended Back Creek Elementary School and Andrew Lewis High School. She lived near the McVitty Nursing home in Salem and did volunteer service there for many years. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and did much genealogy research and temple work.

Barbara had medical problems most of her life. She has had wonderful children who are solicitous of Barbara and involved her in their lives. Barbara wished to express her gratitude for her church family when she needed help with caring for Marvin. Barbara loved children, cats and dogs, and to sing and to dance.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 6311 Wayburn Drive, Salem. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, 540-366-0707.
