They raised their children with the help of the congregation of Blairs Baptist Church in Blairs, VA, where she served in many capacities. In the 1980s, they joined North Main Baptist Church in Danville, where she also served with her gifts of compassion and generosity.
She worked for many years as a Registered Nurse in Danville Memorial Hospital, Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute, and Roman Eagle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She also served as a certified Master Gardener, volunteered at the Free Clinic, God's Storehouse, and the Science Museum, and was a hospice volunteer. She taught CPR and trained CNAs at the Pittsylvania County Vo-Tech Center.
