Basil Burton

Basil French Burton, 88, of Narrows, VA., went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 1, 2025, at his home surrounded by family.  Basil was born on February 20, 1937, in Narrows and was a son of the late Earnest Fulton Burton and Dollie Varden Blankenship Burton.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lee Burton.

Basil was a lifelong resident of Wolf Creek in Narrows and was a 1957 graduate of Narrows High School.  After high school, he worked for Pike Electric, then he joined the U.S. Marine Corp in 1958 through 1962.  After returning from the Marines, he then went to work for the Celanese Corp. in Narrows, retiring in 1999, with 37 years of service.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and enjoying the company of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gladys Ruth Martin Burton, daughter, Judy B. Conley (Garry) of Pearisburg, 2 sons, Brian S. Burton (Sherri) of York, SC, Danny Burton (Connie) of Narrows, 5 grandchildren, Jessica Webb (Ben), Jason Conley (Elizabeth), Wes Conley (Cara), Sara Burton, Jacob Burton, 9 great grandchildren, Thyler Amos, Kaleigh Amos, Manhattan Conley, Matthew Conley, Wyatt Conley, Josie Conley, Eliana Conley, Asher Conley, Oaklynn Ciros and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 5, 2025, at 1pm Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church in Narrows with Pastor Tony Robertson officiating with burial following in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin at 3pm with full military honors.  The family will receive friends at the church 1 hour before the service from 12 – 1pm.
