Benjamin Lee Hicks

Benjamin Lee Hicks, age 82, of 30 Cardinal Lane, Daleville, Virginia died Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.
Ben was born January 30, 1941 in Crossnore, North Carolina to the late Marion and Etta Oakes Hicks. He served in the United States Air Force and was a retired Maintenance Superintendent for MeadWestvaco. He enjoyed bowling and reading with his great granddaughter Maggie, and he was a University of Virginia Cavalier football and basketball fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Dale King Hicks, and a brother, Marion Hicks, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Conner Kern Hicks of Daleville; a daughter, Audra Hicks of Arlington; two sons, Alan Hicks and wife Lisa of Covington, and Curtis Hicks and wife Marcia of Salem; three step sons, Craig Kern and wife Theresa of Eagle Rock, Mike Kern and wife Pam of Covington, and Ronnie and Diana Kern of Clifton Forge; a sister, Linda Elrod of Salisbury, NC; a brother, Elmer Hicks of Black Mountain, NC; ten grandchildren, Ella Hicks, Owen Hicks, Garrett Hicks, Meredith Hicks, Will Hicks, Brian Paxton, Ashlee Berbert and husband Graham, Michaela Kern, Tyler Kern, and Gabrielle Kern; four great grandchildren, Channing Paxton, Lilly Paxton, Maggie Berbert, and Sloan Berbert; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
A private graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor with Reverend Edith Snedegar officiating. Interment will immediately follow. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Kazim Shriners Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina.
