Benjamin Versil Washburn Sr.

Nov 11, 1933 – Nov 5, 2024

Benjamin “Versil” Washburn Sr., a dedicated carpenter and loving family man, passed away November 5, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on November 11, 1933, Versil spent his life building not only homes, cabinets, and furniture but also meaningful relationships with those around him. The cabinet shop was his second home, seeing his family continue the woodwork brought him joy, and made him proud. His craftsmanship was known for its precision and care, and his work touched many throughout the community.

Above all, Versil was a Godly family man who cherished his loved ones, always putting them first. He took great joy in spending time with his family, sharing stories, and offering a helping hand whenever needed. He loved his church, he attended Faith Baptist in Bassett, Va. He also had a special bond with his dog of 18 years, Cricket, who was a constant companion and brought him much happiness. He was a man of very few words, when he spoke you listened, just very closely due to his soft-spoken voice.

Versil will be remembered for his kind heart, his hard work, and the love he gave to his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Annie Washburn (November 26th would have been their 71st wedding anniversary), children Patricia Coleman, Michael Washburn (Sue), Nancy Lineback (Mike) and a slew of grandchildren, 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Clemon Washburn and Nannie Thomason Washburn Rickman, his brothers, Henry, Jesse, Gilmer, and Clarence Washburn; his sisters, Jean Kirby and Jewel Earles, and his son Benjamin Versil “Benny” Washburn Jr.

A graveside service will be held Friday, November 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Henry Memorial Park with Pastor David Towler officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Faith Baptist Church Building Fund at P.O. BOX 871, Bassett, Virginia 24055.

Versil’s legacy of love, loyalty, and craftsmanship will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
