Bernice Bertha Bain

Bernice Bertha Bain, age 87 of Kings Grant Retirement Center, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026. Mrs. Bain was born on August 31, 1938 in Winnville, Georgia to Otis Tanner and Bertha Walters Tanner Edwards. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Leon Bain, great grandson, Xavier Bonilla and sister, Margaret Peacock.

Bernice was a dedicated and loving homemaker, cook, and caregiver her entire adult life. She worked in the cafeteria at Dupont, then decided to be a stay-home mom while operating an in home licensed child care program until 1982. She provided around the clock care for her ailing husband from 1995 until his death in 2003. She was always busy providing for her family by gardening, canning, and freezing vegetables. Her hobbies included paint by number, coloring with makers, crafts, and singing. She participated in open-mic events at Kings Grant where she was well loved and cared for since December 2023.

Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Lou Poore (Andy), two sons, James Bain and Michael Bain (Martha), six grandchildren, Brian Bain (Jessica), Stephanie Bonilla (Victor), Amanda Hill, Timothy Hurley, Todd Cairo, BJ Minnick (Courtney), nine great grandchildren, Mateo Bonilla, Lera Minnick, Austin Hill, Jason Hill, Duke Hurley, Sophie Hurley, Oliver Hurley, Alexander Cairo and Nathaniel Cairo.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Hwy, Bassett, Virginia .

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Collins Funeral Home with Reverend Blake Neal and Reverend Bonnylee Witt officiating. Burial will follow in Henry Memorial Park.
