Bertha "Bertie" Pritt Persinger

Bertha Pritt “Bertie” Persinger, 84, of Covington, died Sunday, May 19, 2024 at her residence.

She was born September 23, 1939 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Gratton and Della Vance Pritt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Allen Persinger, Sr.; a granddaughter, Victoria “Tori” Swain; a son-in-law, Ernie Swain; five brothers, George Pritt, Ira Pritt, Clarence Pritt, Roy Pritt, Lawrence Pritt and Floyd Pritt.

Bertie worked as a sales clerk in the former Friedman’s Jewelry Store in Covington. Affectionately known as “Nana” to her family and close friends, her favorite past times were cooking and sewing, but most of all she loved to spoil all of her grand and great-great grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are three daughters; Teresa (David) Shifflett of Covington, Loretta Shifflet of Hot Springs and Lorraine Richards of Covington; two sons, Harry (Hazel) Persinger, Jr. of Covington, and Tony (Tammy) Persinger of Petersburg; one sister, Nancy Williams of Hot Springs; eleven grandchildren, Daniel Shifflett, Lacey Shifflett, Angela (Brian) Nicely, April (Davey) Fitzgerald, Tiffany (Jimmy) Shutt, Kristin (Seth) Woodson, Kory (Krissy) Shiffett, Hannah (Dalton) Propst, Colton Oyler, Savanna Oyler, and Ashton Oyler; twenty three great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 5:00 PM in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with Mr Chris Fisher officiating. 

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Harry Jr. and Hazel, 3050 S. Pitzer Ridge Road, Covington.

Arritt Funeral Home has been entrusted to handle the arrangement for Bertha.
