Bertie Louise Adams Cunningham

Bertie Adams Cunningham, 90, of Amherst Virginia, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

A beloved mother, Bertie will be remembered for going the extra mile to bring comfort to others, raising her 5 children and fostering many with love, and creating a lasting legacy in our hearts. Those who knew her often described her as hardworking, caring, and valuing truth.

Bertie was born on January 12, 1936 in Jonesborough, Tennessee to Frank Adams and Carrie Adams (Harrison). Bertie’s family included her four brothers Jim Chandler, Frank Adams Jr, Ronnie Lee Adams, and Kenneth Adam. Her parents were farmers and growing up she developed a love for raising animals great and small on the farm which she would continue doing all her life.

Bertie dedicated her professional life to providing Clinical Aid at the Hospital and diligently worked with Central Virginia Training Center and the Lamano Agency to nurture and foster special children.

Bertie is preceded in death by her Husband Lawrence Cunningham Sr. They were blessed with 5 children, Son Lawrence Cunningham Jr (Delaney), Son Beverley Cunningham, Daughter Peggy Susan Bryant (Late William Bryant), Son Joseph Daniel Cunningham, and Son Hobert Garrent Cunningham. Her blessing continues with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Friday August 7, 2026 at 1:00 PM at 201 Grandview Dr, Driskill Chapel, Amherst, Virginia with a prior visitation being held Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 6:00-7:00 PM at the Chapel. Burial will take place at Amherst Cemetery concluding services on Friday. Pastor Benjamin Smith of Mt Pleasant United Methodist Church will be officiating services. Norris Funeral Service-Driskill Chapel is serving the family.
