Bessie Mae Finney Oliver

Bessie Mae Finney Oliver, 90, of Fieldale, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Martinsville Health and Rehab. She was born on April 20, 1934, to the late Moses Finney and Mary Lee Hagwood Finney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Lee Oliver; four brothers, Otis Finney, Moses Finney Jr., John Finney, and David Finney; and one sister, Dolly Staples.

Bessie worked at Stanley Furniture. She was a member of Rock Run Primitive Baptist Church. Even during her time at the nursing home, she would sing and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Many were led to Christ by her dedication to service.

Bessie is survived by her son, Samuel E. Watkins; two grandchildren, Jonathan Feggans and Lillian Feggans; one great-grandchild, Kiarra Feggans; step granddaughter, Trista Feggans; two step-great grandchildren, John Shay MacArthur Feggans and Deshawn MacArthur Feggans; one sister, Alma Martin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service. A burial will follow immediately after the service at Carver Memorial Gardens.
