Bessie Paxton
Bessie Wood White Paxton, 98, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and formerly of Clifton Forge and Millboro, Virginia, was called home to be with the Lord on January 1, 2026. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, whose life was a testament to her faith and her commitment to family.
She was born on February 27, 1927, in Clifton Forge, Va. to the late Tom and Dollie Elizabeth Nicely Wood.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her late husbands, Edwin (Jim) R. White and Richard E. Paxton; sister, Maude E. Reynolds; brothers, Charles R. Wood, Bryan T. Wood, Joseph E. Wood and Boliver B. Wood.
Bessie enjoyed life on the farm and the hard work that comes along with that. In later years, she took great pride in her vegetable and flower gardens.
Bessie leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy, her two sons, James E. White and his wife Linda, of Millboro; Herman R. White and his wife Donna, of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Charlotte A. Sibold and her husband Sam, of Fishersville; Una R. Leech and her husband Jacob, of Raleigh, NC; Brandon K. White and his wife Shannon, of Concord, NC; Erica W. Mann and her husband Thomas, of Matthews, NC; great-grandchildren, Morrison Leech, Madison White, Braydon White, Owen Mann and Lauren Mann. She also leaves behind, numerous treasured nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Doug Moore and Reverend Vincent Hartford officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, 3515 Longdale Furnace Rd, Clifton Forge, VA. The family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
