Betty "Jean" Cook
Betty “Jean” Cook passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026.
Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose life centered around her family. For 66 wonderful years, she shared a loving marriage with her husband, William “Bill” Cook. Together, they were proud and faithful members of the Bojangles Breakfast Club in Vinton, where they gathered daily with old friends and eagerly welcomed new ones. Those mornings of coffee, conversation, and laughter became a treasured part of their lives.
Jean was a Baptist and last attended Southside Baptist Church when she was physically able. Her faith was an important foundation throughout her life.
She found great joy in simple pleasures—dressing up for Halloween to delight her grandchildren, fishing with Bill in their younger years, and playing cards with family and friends. Jean was a homemaker for most of her life, creating a warm and loving home for her family. At times she worked outside the home, with her last employment being at the Elizabeth Arden packaging plant.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, William “Bill” Cook; her son, Ronald Gene Cook; her son-in-law, Norman Layne Pugh; her parents, Betty and Nerve Weddle; and multiple sisters and brothers.
She is survived by her children: Cindy Pugh; William Cook and wife Donna; Charlie Cook and wife Sharon; Connie Beheler and husband Jerrald; Karen Zimmerman and husband David; and her grandson, Christopher William Cook, who resided with her for many years. She also leaves behind multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved very much and who will forever cherish her memory. She was also survived by one sister, Nancy Kerns; one brother, Joe Weddle; and one brother-in-law, Cyril Cook.
The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Vinton on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Lotz Funeral Home in Vinton on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in her honor to Carilion Clinic Home Hospice, American Heart Association, or the Cancer Awareness Foundation.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Carilion Clinic Home Hospice for their exceptional care during Jean’s final weeks. The compassion and kindness shown to their mother and the entire family were truly outstanding.
Jean’s love, laughter, and devotion to her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
