Bobbie Irvin Jones

June 17, 1934 - May 11, 2024

Bobbie Lee Irvin Jones, 89, passed peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2024 surrounded by her family. Bobbie was born to Garland Chesley Irvin and Helen Kincer Irvin on June 17, 1934 in Wytheville, VA. Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William D. “Bill” Jones, her special aunt Dorothy Davidson and her cousin Peyton Hash.

Bobbie was raised on the family farm in Wythe Co., finding different ways to get into mischief that often led to innocent trouble. Bobbie found a partner to join her in her mischievous ways when she met a boy from Ivanhoe, VA and married Bill on April 3, 1953. Together they embarked on a 52 year journey of adventures. Adventures that took them to Colorado Springs to live for a short period of time before they came back East and eventually settled in Salem, VA. They continued to enjoy trips and adventuring to new places together even after settling in Salem. When she wasn’t out and about or at Walmart, Bobbie dedicated over 20 years to Roanoke County Public Schools. After retiring in 1996, she enjoyed devoting even more time to her family, especially her grandchildren, and spending time with her cousins, Merle and Peyton, going on drives to find somewhere good to eat and taking trips.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Beth Fobare and her “favorite son-in-law”, Patrick of Roanoke, Va; her grandson Corey Fobare and his wife Tracey of Salem, VA; her granddaughter Chesley Light and her husband Tray of Roanoke, Va; her great-grandson who was the absolute light of her life, William Evan Fobare of Salem, VA; her dear cousins Merle Hash of Roanoke, VA and Ty Davidson of Roanoke, VA; and her very special friend, Brenda Journell, of Roanoke, VA. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, other cousins and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 1-3 pm on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Simpson Funeral Home on Peters Creek Rd. A memorial service will directly follow at 3 pm conducted by Rev. Tray Light.

Burial will take place at 1 pm on Monday, May 20, 2024 at Mt. Ephraim Church, Crockett, VA 24323.

If you wish to give a donation in memory of Bobbie, the family requests those be made to the Mt. Ephraim Cemetery Fund, c/o Becky Grubb, 1003 Crockett Rd, Crockett, VA 24323.
