Bobby Carroll Pierce, 85, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

Born on February 25, 1940, in Washington County, Virginia, Bobby was the son of the late Andrew Jacob Pierce and Nannie Virginia Dye Pierce. He was also preceded in death by nine siblings: Charles Pierce, Ellen P. Sanderfur, Pearl P. Smith, Jimmy Pierce, Billy Pierce, Jefferson Pierce, Douglas Pierce, Jackie Pierce, and Lloyd Pierce.

Bobby dedicated his life to hard work, family, and service. He retired as a District Traffic Engineer from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) after an extraordinary 60 years of service. His long and accomplished career included work in surveying, highway design, and traffic and transportation engineering—areas where his commitment to safety and innovation left a lasting mark on the roads of Virginia.

A proud veteran, Bobby served his country in the National Guard for four years and in the U.S. Army Reserve for two years. Beyond his professional and military service, he was deeply involved in his community. During the early 1970s, he played an active role in Lynchburg Little League Baseball, serving as a coach, director, and in various administrative positions. His love for sports ran deep—he especially enjoyed NASCAR, baseball, and football, always cheering for his beloved Washington Redskins.

He had a special love for animals, particularly dogs, who brought him great comfort and companionship throughout his life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Shelia Woodruff Pierce, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
