Bobby G. Haynes

Bobby G. Haynes, age 90, of Collinsville, Virginia, passed away at Sovah Hospital in Martinsville, Virginia on Sunday, August 16. He was born in Bassett, Virginia, on July 24, 1936, and was a lifelong resident of Henry County.

Bobby retired from Continental Can of Martinsville in 1991 after many years of dedicated service. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Army. He served from 1959 to 1961 and was called back to active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. He was honorably discharged in 1965.

Bobby loved the outdoors and hunting. Later in life, his love of hunting gave away to a love of watching wildlife and the birds that visited his feeder. He enjoyed the simple pleasure of being outdoors and observing the wildlife around him.

Bobby was a loving and generous man who cared deeply for his family. He was always willing to help when someone was in need. He also loved eating at Fieldale Cafe, where he enjoyed seeing and visiting with so many of his friends.

If you knew Bobby, you knew there was a good chance he would be smoking a cigarette. He would proudly tell his doctors that he only smoked a pack a day and that he didn't start until he was fifteen. It was just one of the many things that made Bobby uniquely himself and gave those around him a smile.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Haynes and Gladys Cox Haynes; and his siblings, Beulah Pilson, John Haynes, Elmer Haynes, Marie Ashworth, and Ruth Compton.

He is survived by his fourteen nieces and nephews, along with extended family and friends who will cherish his memory.

Bobby will be remembered for his love of family, his generous heart, his enjoyment of the outdoors, and the friendships he made throughout his life. He leaves behind, any cherished memories and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral Services will be held at Bassett Funeral Home, 3665 Fairystone Park Hwy, Bassett, VA on Friday, August 21. The visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 pm with the funeral service at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Cox Cemetery, Goblintown Road, Stuart, VA.
