Bobby James Nickelston

Bobby “Bob” James Nickelston, 84, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024. He was born September 4, 1939, in Sandy Ridge, North Carolina, to the late Hubert Columbus Nickelston and Cora Ann Nickelston.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Eldean Atkins, Geneva Biggs, Nellie Hopkins, and Pauline Nickelston; and brothers, Frank Nickelston, and John “Dink” Nickelston.

Bobby was an owner/operator of Bob’s Enterprises which operated Scrub Board Laundry and Southern Pride Car Wash. He was a jack of many trades and loved the quote, “one quarter at a time” and he worked 25 hours a day, 8 days a week.

He is survived by his son, James Richard Nickelston (LuAnn); daughter, Rhonda Hopkins (Robert); brothers, Jimmy Nickelston (Patsy), and Paul Nickelston (Sue); grandchildren, Brad Nickelston, Bryan Nickelston, Brittany Nickelston Rowe, Dustin Hussey, and Ryan Hopkins; and eight great-grandchildren.

The memorial service will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
