Bonnie Frances Hopkins Journell

Bonnie Frances Hopkins Journell, 89, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026.

Born in North Carolina on July 29, 1937, Bonnie lived a life centered on family, friendship, and simple joys. She was a devoted member of Elks Lodge #1065 in Clifton Forge and found happiness in gardening, fishing, cookouts, crafting, and spending time with those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Dolly Hopkins; her son, Robert Kent Equils; her daughters, Ramona K. Barrett and Penny Marie Maxey; and her brother, James Larry Hopkins.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 48 years, Michael Journell; her son, Ernest Holland, Jr.; her daughter, Belinda F. Zeiller; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home, Daleville, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 4:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Good Samaritan Hospice for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Bonnie and her loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Elks Youth Camp in Bonnie's memory.
