Our Dearest Mother

Brenda was a wonderful mother who taught us how to be strong by example, and proved that there could never be a more supportive mother than Brenda.

We will remember Brenda for her delicious cooking and baking but her best recipe was a loving heart, a generous spirit and compassion for all.

Over her lifetime, Brenda was blessed with many people that loved and cared for her. She had a special bond with Diane Clements who was her best friend and like a sister to her for almost 50 years. They met at Southside Elementary school in 1974. It was Diane’s first job as a teacher and Brenda was assigned as an assistant to teach kindergarten. Their love and commitment for each other was immediately cemented and they quickly formed a friendship that has endured over the years.

One of Brenda’s favorite stories to tell is when she runs into former students and they excitedly run up to her and say, “Hey, Mrs. Jones, do you remember me? I was in your class in kindergarten”. Brenda would very graciously say Yes! She would come home and laugh and tell us, I didn’t have a clue who that was but they were so excited to see me that I couldn’t disappoint. That is another example of the loving heart that Brenda had.

She was the Homecoming Queen of 1959 at Brosville High School. Brenda loved to tell the story about how she and Brantley met that reminded her of the movie Grease. It was love at first sight. To get Brantley’s attention, while she was in class, she would continue to go to the pencil sharpener by the window. But, he didn’t need much encouragement because Brenda was a beauty. In the 1950’s, they enjoyed racing Brantley’s ’55 chevy and going to sock hops.

Brenda was an avid walker. She could be seen daily walking up and down the sidewalk on Franklin Turnpike. It was important to her to stay fit, she always strived to look her best. She always enjoyed sunbathing and reading historical novels in the backyard. She enjoyed Better Homes & Garden and Southern Living magazines for their great recipes and emphasis on Southern heritage. Brenda loved her home and property where she tended her rose and flower gardens. Brenda loved watching the birds at the bird feeder and feeding the deer every evening. She enjoyed all kinds of music and played music in her house every day all day long. She loved watching Dancing with the Stars. She loved to dance. For a while, she took jazz and belly dancing lessons and was part of a local dance troupe.

Brenda was very proud of her husband, Brantley who had his own auto mechanic business. She was also very proud to be a part of his family who founded Jesse Jones Sausage Company.

With heavy hearts, Kelly and Alison will deeply miss the Mother who sacrificed, encouraged, supported and loved them unconditionally. Their Mother, definitely made a difference and enriched their lives. Her death came unexpectedly but she left them prepared because they have a lifetime of memories and love to last forever. Kelly and Alison will hold on to each other and continue to incorporate the life’s lessons that their Mother taught them and to cherish the bond that their Mother instilled in them. They will continue to honor their beautiful Mother and the life she lived.

Brenda leaves to mourn her loss two daughters, Kelly Esguerra of Danville and Alison (Brett) Spivey of Raleigh, a granddaughter Georgia Brett Spivey of Raleigh whom she adored, and a brother, Wallace Brown of Danville.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Brantley Jones, her mother and father Frances Brown Beckham and James Brown, a brother, Sandy Brown and a sister, Joan Akers.

The legacy of Brenda’s love, free spirit and compassion will be etched in their hearts forever.

Visitation for Brenda Brown Jones will be held on Thursday evening, November 2nd from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Norris Mt. Herman Chapel, 3995 Franklin Tpke., Danville.
