Brenda Fay Shelton

Brenda Fay Shelton, 75, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 20, 1948, in Bassett, Virginia, to the late Harvey Raymond East, Sr., and Mary Ethel Lawson East. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 19 years, John Edgar Shelton, Jr.; sister, Hattie Mae East; and five brothers: David East, Robert East, James East, Glenn East, and Russell East.

Brenda was a cutter in the textile industry for Barnes & Company. She was a member of, and faithfully attended, Stella Christian Church in Patrick Springs. Brenda thoroughly enjoyed her time watching television with her cat; she liked Madea, Meet the Browns, and Dr. Pol. Brenda's life underwent a significant transformation in 1996 when she received a kidney transplant from her sister, Mary Ruth. The procedure deeply bonded the two. Brenda also cherished her close connection and relationship with her twin sister, Linda.

Brenda is survived by two daughters, Virginia Faye Bowling (Jeffrey) and Lisa Ann Matherly; grandchildren: Tabitha Joy Bowling, Dean Blankenship, Lynn Burks, Michelle Shelton (Antione), and Josh Marlowe.; great-grandchildren: Nathaniel James Eggleston, Daniel Burks, Kaylee Burks, Jaxson McGhee, and Ethan Blankenship; sisters, Linda Mullins and Mary Ruth Barlow; two brothers, Bobby Lee East, Sr., and Harvey Raymond East, Jr., and beloved cat, Binky.

There will be a funeral service held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 12:00 PM, at Bassett Funeral Service, with Pastor Steve Hayes officiating. The family will accept friends one hour prior to the service. The burial will immediately follow at Stella Christian Church Cemetery.
