Brenda Kaye Overby Smith

July 27, 1942 - November 1, 2026

Mrs. Brenda Kaye Overby Smith, age 84, of Dobson, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 27, 1942, in Surry County, to the late Clyde Taft Overby and the late Mary Willard Overby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, William “Bill” Eugene Smith; her son, David “Bud” Eugene Smith; her brothers, Jimmy Martin Overby and Donald Ray Overby Sr. and her nephews, Donald Ray Overby Jr, and Brandon Taft Overby. Kaye was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother. Family was the center of her world, and she found her greatest joy in the time she spent with those she loved. She especially treasured caring for her great-grandchildren and making memories with each generation of her family. She retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, where she worked as a claims processor. Outside of work, Kaye enjoyed tending to her flowers, watching the birds, and collecting teapots. She found happiness in life's simple pleasures and was a faithful member of the Baptist faith. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Dale Stewart; grandchildren, Chrissy Robson and Nick, Jonathan Gwyn and Shelly, and Taylor Smith; great grandchildren, Laura Robson and Clint Robson; her fur babies, Molly and Midnight; and several nieces nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, November 9, 2026, in the Pilot Mountain City Cemetery, with Rev. Caleb Thomas and Pastor Cory Honeycutt officiating. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and to her loving caregivers, Sarah Hasty and Maria Garcia, for the kindness, compassion, and care shown to Kaye and her family. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she shared, the memories she created, and the family she cherished will remain a lasting part of the lives she touched. Moody-Davis Funeral Service of Dobson is respectfully serving the Smith family.
