Brian Albrecht

July 1, 1961 - March 8, 2023

He was preceded in death by his father, G. Fred Albrecht and his mother, Janet Pridgen East Albrecht. He is survived by five brothers: Douglas Albrecht (Deborah) of Clifton Forge, VA; Mark Albrecht (Evelyn) of Hailey, ID; Michael Albrecht (Shirley) of Llano, TX; Eric Albrecht of Front Royal, VA; and Kevin Albrecht (Tobie) of S. Peters, MO; and one sister, Lauren Albrecht, of Big Stone Gap, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Brian was a graduate of George Mason Jr.-Sr. High School, Falls Church, VA. He worked as a service provider before he developed serious mental illness which required professional case management. He resided in group homes for 33 years, participating in day support programs. While living in Richmond 2004-2020, he regularly attended Sunday church services including Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Perry St.).

With his health declining, his family relocated him in 2021 to be near his sister Lauren in Southwest VA. In March 2022 he received a diagnosis of late-state lung cancer. After radiation treatments proved unsuccessful, he received palliative, then hospice care. The family is especially appreciative of the caring support provided by the staff at Ridgecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation and Caris Hospice.

Throughout his life, Brian enjoyed daily phone calls with his farflung siblings. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan (now the Commanders), an enthusiasm he shared with several of his brothers. His siblings took turns taking him on hikes and outings, and he especially enjoyed long sightseeing drives and walks in the mountains with his sister. She and her brothers recall that Brian saw humor where he could, lived gratefully and showed us how to die gracefully.

A celebration of life service will be held at Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge. The family will receive visitors Thursday, March 23 at 10 am followed by a celebration of life service at 11 am.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Roanoke Valley Chapter of National Alliance on Mental Illness, P.O. Box 20864, Roanoke, VA 24018-0087.
