Bruce Wayne Fields

Bruce Wayne Fields, 68, of Eden, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, at ANCORA of Rockingham County. He was born in Nash County North Carolina on June 5, 1958. He was the son of the late Charles Fields Loraine Parker Thorne.

Bruce was a born-again child of God whose faith and love for his family were at the heart of who he was. He loved his family endlessly and cherished every moment he was able to spend with them.

For 40 years, Bruce dedicated himself to industrial construction, where he worked as a supervisor and earned the affectionate nickname “The Concrete Man.” He took great pride in his work and in the people he worked alongside.

But to those who knew him best, Bruce was so much more than his career. He was hilarious, always ready with a quick joke, and had a remarkable ability to bring joy wherever he went. You simply could not be around Bruce without experiencing his laughter, warmth, and unforgettable personality.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father Charles Fields; his daughter, Becki Fields; his son, Timothy Donavant; his sister-in-law, Jackie Moore; and his brothers-in-law, Matthew Flippen and Ricky Flippen.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 40 years, Teressa “Cookie” Fields; his mother, Loraine Parker Thorne (Buddy); his brothers, Junior Jones, Roy Sawyers (Robin), Dennis Thorne (Nikki), Michael Fields, Mike Flippen, and Lee Martin; his sisters, Wendy Bedford (Charlie), Kristy Turnage (Tim), Cindi Ritter (Kevin), and Jenifer Flippen; his mother-in-law, Naomi Ramsey; his Godchildren, Dravain Maples, Vincent Beck, and Emma Beck; many children with whom he shared a special bond; and his dear friend, Ted Johnson. He also leaves behind countless family members, friends, coworkers, and loved ones whose lives were made brighter by knowing him. To Kasey and Shannon, he was lovingly known as Daddy Bruce. To Marjorie, Saige, Aziyah, and Zoey, he was their beloved Peepaw. And to his wife, Cookie, he was the love of her life.

Bruce’s greatest legacy will not be measured by the concrete he poured or the many years he spent building things. It will be found in the lives he touched, the laughter he shared, the love he gave so freely, and the memories he created with the people who mattered most to him.

Though his family will deeply miss his laughter, his jokes, his strength, and his loving presence, they find comfort in knowing that Bruce is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior. His love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
